Dr. Derek Eggers supports faculty using technology for teaching at Appalachian State University. Derek comes to us from the University of Kentucky where he served as Sr. Faculty Instructional Consultant for the Center for the Enhancement of Learning and Teaching (CELT) and as the Director of Online Education for the College of Arts and Sciences. His experience as a learning consultant combined with a background in industrial technology and engineering design provide a diverse skillset to compliment the Center for Academic Excellence team at Appalachian. Derek holds a Doctorate of Education in Instruction and Administration from the University of Kentucky, a M.S. in Industrial Technology from Purdue, and a B.S. in Engineering Design Technology from East Tennessee State University. While at UK Derek led the development of a series of digital literacy short courses called IT-IQ where students studied various aspects of digital literacy including data analysis and visualization, web development, and 3D digital design. At AppState Derek teaches CNC Programing / Digital Fabrication in the Industrial Design program. His interests include project based learning, digital design and fabrication, environmental sustainability; and, he enjoys sailing, snowboarding, and kayaking.
